What materials are Zentai's futon mattresses made from?

Zentai futons are made in cotton, cotton and wool, and foam core constructions. The 18 cm Premium Foam Core futon is also available with an optional wool layer for added warmth.

How thick is a futon mattress?

A traditional futon is approximately 10 cm thick, and both of Zentai's cotton futons are 10 cm. The Premium Foam Core is 18 cm for people who want more height off the floor.

Is a futon the same as a sofa bed?

No. A futon is a slim floor-sleeping mattress made from natural materials such as cotton or wool. The fold-out metal-frame couch often sold as a futon in Australia is a different product. Zentai makes futon mattresses, not sofa bed frames.

Can I use a futon mattress on a bed frame?

Futons are designed for the floor or a tatami mat. A slat base or futon frame also works, as long as air can circulate underneath. For a raised sleeping surface, Zentai's organic latex mattress range is better suited to a bed frame.

How do I care for a futon mattress?

Air it daily by folding it or standing it upright, rotate it weekly, flip it monthly, and sun it occasionally on a dry day. Store it dry and off the floor. A natural mattress protector extends its life.

A futon is a low floor mattress approximately 10 cm thick, made from natural materials, with no frame of any kind. It is laid on a tatami mat or hardwood floor at night and folded away each morning.

This is not the fold-out metal-frame sofa bed sometimes sold under the same name. A Zentai futon contains no metal, no synthetic fill, and is not designed to be used as seating.

Compressed natural cotton layers. Firm, breathable, classic shikibuton. Ideal for tatami mat use and floor sleeping.
