If you’ve shopped mass-market mattress brands before landing here, you’ve probably noticed something missing from our product pages: the usual 100-night mattress trial period. It’s a fair thing to notice, and worth a straight answer rather than a marketing dodge.
The short version: bedding is excluded from general returns under Australian hygiene regulations, once it’s been slept on, it can’t legally be resold as new. That’s true for us and for every mattress retailer in the country, regardless of what a landing page implies.
What differs is what a brand builds instead of a trial period. Ours is the Zentai 45-Night Comfort Guarantee, and because of how our mattresses are actually constructed, it solves the problem a trial period is meant to solve without a single mattress going back in a truck.
A 100-night trial sounds risk-free, but think through what actually happens when a mattress comes back: hygiene rules mean it can’t be resold, so it’s compressed and landfilled, and the cost of that waste is quietly built into the sticker price of every mattress sold under that model, not just the one that gets returned. It’s a marketing solution to a comfort problem, not a construction solution.
Every Zentai Premium mattress (Duo-Layer 18cm, Tri-Layer 23cm and 26cm) is built from separate layers of GOLS-certified organic latex in soft, medium and firm densities. The layers aren’t glued together, they’re designed to be flipped, rotated and rearranged. That construction choice is what makes a real comfort guarantee possible without a return:
Sending back an entire queen or king mattress because the top layer feels a touch too firm is a lot of freight, packaging and waste for what is usually a one-layer problem. Because comfort in a Zentai mattress lives in individual, separable layers, we can fix the actual issue, feel, without touching the rest of the mattress. No compressed, unsellable mattress ends up in a truck to landfill, and you’re not without a bed while a replacement ships.
Can I get a full refund instead of a layer exchange?
Bedding is excluded from general returns under Australian hygiene regulations once it’s been used. The 45-Night Comfort Guarantee is our alternative: fixing the feel through a layer exchange rather than a refund.
What if I decide within the first week that it’s wrong?
We still recommend the 14-night settling-in period first, most early impressions change as your body adapts to latex. If you’re genuinely unsure, call us during that period and we’ll talk through it with you.
Does the $95 fee apply if the exchange is our error?
Contact our Byron Bay team directly to discuss your specific situation, they can confirm how this applies before you proceed.
Is the guarantee different for cot mattresses, toppers, pillows or futons?
The Comfort Guarantee extends across our range, covers, quilting, cot mattresses, futons, toppers, pillows and accessories, but the mechanics (settle-in period, free rearrangement call, exchange terms) are worth confirming for your specific product with our team.
If firmness uncertainty is what’s holding you back, call our Byron Bay team on (02) 6685 6722 before you order, we’d rather help you choose the right comfort level up front than rely on an exchange after the fact.
