Posture Slats or Solid Slats?

So you’ve decided on your beautiful new Zentai Living solid wood bed frame. Hit that ‘Add to Cart’ button - let’s do this! Oh hang on...I have to choose ‘Slat Type’. Not sure which slat system to choose? Read on…

Your bed frame and mattress work together to provide the necessary comfort and support for your body. In providing this comfort and support, the bed frame is just as important as your mattress. Our solid wood bed frames can be supplied with your choice of slat system - posture (sprung) slats or solid slats.

Posture Slats (Sprung Slats)

The posture slat system uses a series of wooden slats that are shaped with an upward curve allowing them to act like a spring. When you lie on the bed, the slats flex with your body weight, adjusting to your sleeping profile. They allow for movement and adjustment while maintaining firm support.

Posture slatted bed bases work in harmony with your body and mattress. They provide optimum pressure sensitive support and stability all night long.

Other benefits of posture slats include:

  • Reduced partner disturbance. Double or larger frames use two separate sets of slats for either side. Movement is not transferred throughout the bed.
  • Relieve pressure points - hip and shoulder.
  • Keep your spine in good alignment for perfect relaxation & comfort.
  • Excellent pressure distribution for a good blood circulation.

Zentai’s posture slats are held in place by small plastic pockets that are inserted onto the end of each slat. Each pocket is then inserted into holes that run along the side and centre rails of the bed frame ensuring there is no slat movement.

Solid Slats

Solid slats are made from thicker solid timber or ply. They provide a supportive base for your mattress and are ideal if you prefer a firmer bed.

Zentai’s solid slats are connected together with three strips of webbing that run the length of the bed. With the weight of the mattress and sleepers, there is no movement or creaking produced from the slats.

Solid slats will make any mattress placed on it firmer than it might have been on posture slats. Umm...there’s not much more to say. They’re solid!

Which slat system should I choose?

The choice depends on the comfort and support requirements of you (and your partner).

If you prefer a firm sleeping surface with plenty of support then solid slats might be a better option for you. Also, if you have back problems or injuries you might find that a solid/firm surface a good choice.

That said, the added comfort and pressure point relief that posture slats provide generally make them the best option for most people. The vast majority of Zentai Living customers choose posture slats with their bed frames and feedback is almost always positive.

If you are not sleeping on a Zentai Living mattress, it’s best to check if the manufacturer recommends a particular bed frame type or slat system.
